ECC Methodology

At Elly Child Care, we adapt few principles of Reggio Emilia’s methodology along with preschool curriculum. Reggio Emilia’s approach to early education reflects a theoretical kinship with great educators and designed for all children from birth through six years of age. Hailed as an exemplary model of early childhood education (Newsweek, 1991), the Reggio Emilia approach to education is committed to the creation of conditions for learning that will enhance and facilitate children’s construction of “his or her own powers of thinking through the synthesis of all the expressive, communicative and cognitive languages” (Edwards and Forman, 1993).

Some of Reggio’s principles that are used in ECC curriculum are:

  • Activities build upon the interests of children.
  • The curriculum is an emergent curriculum which is age relevant.
  • Environment is considered 3 rd teacher, the setting is aesthetically pleasing.
  • Documentation of child’s work which is similar to portfolio is done for every child, which helps to track the child’s progress.
  • Creative approach, where the teacher is considered as co-explorer.
